Taking advantage of the low water in my pond

Postby helomech » 08:10 pm Sep 08 2011

My old dock was about 6 feet away from the water, and was to small anyways. It was also starting to rot. So while it is low I figured I would make it bigger and better. I used some old telephone poles I had laying around, and using the wood from my my old carport. I am also going to make a floating portion of the dock. Not sure how far I am going to go out into the pond, but supplies will dictate. Hoping only to have to buy some lag bolts and some containers to float the dock.

Still got a long ways to go, but got the back breaking work done.

I removed the feeder, and will put it near the end of the new dock.

Standing at the bottom looking up to where the dock is going to start.

And all pilings in.

Looking good helo. Did you dig the holes by hand or does the tractor have a auger??

Well did not have enough lumber for the deck, so had to buy it. But got it almost done, well except for the floating part. That is going to be fun.

This pic makes it look funny, still have to fill in the where it meets land.

It is 7 feet above the water level. It is 8 foot wide by 26 feet long, my old dock was 4 feet wide, and about 12 feet long.

Oh and the 8 foot boards are all different lengths. So I have to cut a straight line tomorrow.

This is the old dock. It is a little lower than the new dock. Can't wait for the water to come back up.

Thank John, it wasn't to bad doing it by myself. Just lots of on and off the tractor. I am sore

It is impossible to get those pilings square. With them all being different diameters. So had to do a little tweaking to get it to look right.

As far as I can tell they are doing okay. Lots of baby bass and perch, my son used his net yesterday and in one swoop he caught about 10 baby perch. Not sure how the catfish are doing though.

Found out it will hold at least 1500 lbs

And these are the tanks I am going to use for the floats. Probably going to need 4.

Got the feeder put back up, I think I am done until I get the parts for the floating dock.

Looks great! You can use the cages from those floats to make a blynd you just wrap it in Camo burlap and remove the plastic tank.

Was going to use the cage to secure the tank to the dock.
