Special Vietnam Veterans Hunt

Postby huntingwithsoldiers » 09:03 am Jan 07 2011

After going to several gun shows and promoting the Hunting with Soldiers Program, I have talked with a lot of Vietnam Veterans. Many of them love that the program is all about getting the Soldiers and Disabled Veterans, returning from active Combat, back in the outdoors, but wish someone would have done something like this for them when they came back. Well we decided to do a special Vietnam Veterans hunt during the 2 weeks of the special doe and spike season. Looking forward to the first Vietnam Veteran getting here today. Going to be a great weekend. Hope all have a wonderful weekend.

Friday evening him and his Daugter went out. They got to hear 2 bucks fighting, then watch them chase each other around. Then they saw some small does but he decided not to shoot one. Sat. Morning they didnt see anything. Sat. Evening when it was getting late, he saw a few and couldnt tell if they had horns on them or not since it was getting late so he decided not to shoot. Since the weather was getting bad where they live, they decided to leave Sunday morning instead of hunt. It was great having them here and an Honor to meet him and his daughter. She took some pics but emailed me and said they didnt come out. I asked her to get a pic of her Dad with his gun when she can so I can put him on my website. Either way they made memories that will last for many years.

I want to THANK you & the organization for offering my dad this hunt. True we did not kill a deer but stocked up on many memories, got to laugh, he shared stories & such. It sucks the pics of in the blind & such didn't turn but I will get a photo of the raffle gun & him with this week. Me & my bunch should be up the last weekend of this month (weather pending) because I have a smoker to donate to the HWS house. It was a pleasure to come up, love the area. Will keep in touch.

Thanks Margret. It was a lot of fun visiting with you and your Dad. I really grew to like him a lot even though we only visited a couple of times. Hes a great guy and has some great stories. I will treasure you guys visit for years to come. It was my honor to have your Dad here and great getting to know you as well. Look forward to meeting your other half.

If all goes as planned (weather permitting) we will be up that last weekend of this month. Don't know if it will be later that Friday or Saturday but I can give you a ring if you are not busy. Might stop at the Double G for coffee/burger/lunch if they are open.

I again appreciate that opportunity to take dad up there, he really enjoyed the trip. Not to often does he get out like that & there is no telling how many more chances at a hunt together. flag.gif
