Deer Lease Overgrown

Postby Mike » 08:02 pm Jul 19 2010

Lindsey and I went down to Spur yesterday to the lease. We got there and discovered all the rain we have received has been good to the sunflowers and other brush. I made the slow trek down to the feeder (which I almost could not see becasue of all the overgrown brush), stepped out of the pickup and was almmost eaten alive by the mosquitos. We did not even think about taking any bug spray.

I got three bags of corn in the feeder, got back in the pickup, and left. I did not even get any picutures because I did not want stand outside that long. I am going back down in a week or two with a case of bug spary and a weed eater to clear out around my feeder and blind.

Mosquitos are so big here they are big enough to stand flat footed and make love to a buffalo.

Our lease SE of Jayton is the same way. It was so grown up that it was difficult to find the roads/trails leading to our feeders. Went during the hot part of the morning so the skeeters were not real bad, but I know they are there. I visited with a lady in Girard yesterday and she said they had 12" during that spell. sure hope it makes everything fat and the bucks antlers big.

Another thing that I saw that is always intriguing is the JUMBO GRASSHOPPERS, they are very big and fat and everywhere. They are big enought that when you run over them, they pop!

Ours is bad too. I took a week off in the middle of next month to go mow, trim limbs and get my feeders going. It's gonna be a lot of work, but I like it!! We've had a wetter than average summer so far so I think the bucks will be in good shape.
