1 tuff hunting trip but still had fun

Postby largehunter on 09:17 pm Dec 28 2009

Well I overslept Sunday morning and did get to the lease in Jacksboro until 6:30 am. I was cusing the whole time and when I pulled in the gate there was still snow 8 inches deep in a few spots, so me my 2 wheel drive chevy go as far as I can, now I park the truck and here come the cows, while trying to get dressed the cows keep bumping into me and My dumb a__ shut the door to my truck and my keys are inside so Im locked out of my truck with my rifle in the back seat! So all I have if a pocket knife to get in the truck, well I got it done and I head my ground blind with 50 cows fallowing all the way. I get in the blind and it now 7:45 am and all can think is What the Heck,as the cows go eat all the corn under my feeder. Well I just figured I would take a nap till the cows leave and I wake up around 9:25 am and no cows? So grab my rifle and load it and look up and there are 12 does scattered all over and I say waht the hell and shoot a doe at 85 yards as she would not come to the feeder. Hit her in the front shoulder with a .270 and she drops then gets up runs 100 yards falls again then gets up and goes another 100 yards!! Bow did she ever plow some snow.
While she is dying all the does are running in circles I see one around 230 yards away and shot her and she ran 100 yards down the fence line and died.
Now I had to drag the 1st doe 1800 yards back to my truck, that just wore my fat a__ out. Then I got lucky and one of the hunters on the lease pulls up and lets me use his 4 wheeler to retrieve the 2nd deer

That goes to show you that even though things start out bad or running late, things may get real good quick. I remember my first buck kill at the age of 13. Was running behind because of a very bad car wreck hitting deer on the interstate and less than 30 minutes in the woods buck down. CONGRATS on the kill.
