Bucks found my protein feed pen, and the first fawn

Postby helomech » 02:53 pm Jun 17 2009

finally made it home after 9 days. 3 of my cams stopped taking pics a few days ago. The 1 gig card was full on them. Any ways glad to see the bucks in the protein pen, and the first fawn of the year on cam.

I don't think it is, but not positive. Here is another pic and her legs look normal length to me. I do have some pics of her that it is obvious she is nursing though.

Thanks, they should there is plenty of food, and my pond still has lots of water in it. The creek is dry though. But maybe that is a good thing, it may make some other deer go search for water and there is no other pond for a few miles from here.

Cool I'm glad they started eating it. Everybody has alway told me it takes a while....no idea why. All those deer look good and healthy, I think East Tx is going to be off to a good start this year, I've been seeing a TON of deer. Just counting the days, I'm off the 1st 2 weeks of season, the youth weekend, and a week in December!!

Do you know the dates of the season? With the new rules I am sure the season opening has changed, but the new book is not out yet. mad.gif

The game warden told me that the youth weekend would be Oct 31st and Nov 1st and then general season would be opening on Nov 7th. He said that wasn't chiseled in stone, but he was "almost psitive" that is when it would be. I hope he's right because I scheduled my vacation around those dates LOL!!

Thanks, I believe I have more bucks than I first thought. I have 2 separate groups at least. So either8 to 10. I have been looking real hard and that 8 is not one of the ones I have been watching.

No I haven't heard how that turned out, but they were expecting it to pass. I'll see what I can find out and let you know.

I thought I posted to this already, huh.

If my count is right, I think I will try to let 2 bucks be taken this year, and probably 1 doe. But I will know more later. Hard to get a good count. My neice will get the chance at the doe. If I see a nice buck, or a trash buck I will try to take it.

Last time I talked to you the plan was one or two does and no bucks unless one caught your eye trophy or not.

Yeah, it is a fluid plan. If there are 2 groups of bucks, then I think that is too many. Besides there are some that are not being caught by the camera. It will be easier to tell once their velvet is gone. Just going to make the best decision I can with the info I have, and hope it is the right one. cheers.gif
