pheasant hunting

Postby TEXASLEFTY » 06:34 am Nov 17 2008

I will be going to Sunray for opening weekend of pheasant season. I will be hunting Moore and Sherman counties, last year was my first time to hunt them and I had the first one that I took mounted. I am hoping to do some hunting for mule deer on friday before pheasant season starts. I have never taken a mule deer and to take one in Texas would be very special to me.

Should have updated sooner, I did not because I was unsure how to load photos. We hunted in plainview opening morning and afternoon and sunray on sunday. we did not see many birds, we did however have a great time. We stayed in a friends monaco an friday night (it was a real nice coach.

Then we went back for closing weekend and hunted all over Moore and Sherman county. where ever the birds were hiding on opening weekend I could not tell you however we found them on closing weekend.

Good run guys.
Txpapa, we need to get a few of us from around here together next year and make a few runs.
I have access to tons of country up around Lazbuddie, it just takes about 5 or 6 people to hunt, and that's hard to organize, but we need to do it.

Thanks slick! we shot alot more birds than that we had 22 guys. On saturday we could have used about 10 more blockers. If I am still invited on the pheasant hunt this year when december comes around I will show you some more pictures. There are alot of guys that I do not know in the group and I will not put there pictures on the internet.

Nice bunch and congrats. I'd love to hunt them sometime. We actually started seeing a few here in Central Texas about 3 years ago.

This was taken right in front of my ground blind. I think a local game ranch is probably where they come from but we do have several birds around now and they are breeding also.

Lefty actually we can take them here (or so I was told) because they are considered feral in our county and part of the state. I have enjoyed watching them and since they seem to be multiplying we let them go.

Kevin the one doe with bow and a buck with my rifle. First rifle kill in several years.

If you have pics of your deer I would like to see them.

I would check with TXPW before I took a pheasant in the hill country. Since there is a Pheasant season in Texas I have been told it is legal and illeagal. Either way it would be awesome if they took in the hill country.
