my first turkey

Postby slicknasty Jr. on 11:27 am Jan 15 2009

my first turkey was back in 07

our next door neighbor had always had 4 or 5 tom in the group of sixty that he had and one day he as i was staring out the window
at turkeys at his house feeder.

he said if i shoot him a good doe for meat, that can have one of his turkeys. and i said deal.

the first weekend we sat about 15 yards from the feeder that did not work i could get shot.

then next we sat in a tree stand by road the toms struted.
sure enough here they came, but as soon as i had a shot they huddled up together and no shot.
they walked out about 25 yards and parted and boom, wounded.

he flew away somewhere and limping on his left leg.

a month later, new years eve, i said one more try. dan had been seeing my tom limping around traded the shotgun for 22 mag.

and that is how i got my month-long,9 1/2 inch beard tom!
