Well I managed to get 1, saw a LOT of animal activity as well. First deer to come in when I got there was a small, yearling doe fawn. I mean small, my DOG was bigger then this. I couldn't pull the trigger. Once the feeder went off, a massive flock of hungry turkey hens swooped in & ate....and ate...and ate. After watching them for almost an hour, I have come to the conclusion that turkey are retarded. Ran around, clicked, clucked, jumped over each other scooted here & there...it was funny. Next to come in was a 3+yr old 6 pt (over twice the size of the yearling) then followed by 2 more small yearlings. After a while the 3 yearlings meandered off, leaving the 6 pt to eat then he left. About 30 minutes later, after the turkeys cleared (stampeded over to the water) a young (2.5 yr old) 8 pt came in to eat followed by a nice, tall 4.5+ yr old 8 pt. They ate for a while then left. I had set the feeder timer to do a small bust of feed at 5 & not even 1 minute after that, the 8's came back. I noticed a group of nice sized does just across the fence going up the hill & away. I thought..."well there goes my chances" but about 15 minutes later, not long before dark, they came back. Even had a large button buck with a double throat patch in the group. I picked the biggest doe, waited until she was by herself & BOOM. Doe down. Surprisingly enough, one of the little yearlings just stood here watching them all run away as if it didn't care & proceeded to eat until I got up to walk back to the truck. She is a GOOD sized doe. Funny thing is that she had dark hocks like a rutting buck & had a musty smell also. But she was 100% doe, no antler/antler buds, noticeable bag. Won't be able to go back to the lease this evening but can sneak out on the home place here & try to get at least one more. One is better then NONE. Phewww feel a lil bit better that there is at least one more for the freezer.
You can't be lost if you don't care where you are going
