This makes the 5th hog I have killed this year and the biggest to date. I went down to the lease for the last time on Thursday to build feeder pens around my 3 feeders and to start the protein as I would not have a chance to get back down until late Jan. All the deer I have seen in the last month and a half are either to young and/or broken up like I have never seen. I have killed a buck this year so i was looking for a cull or a true trophy, but it never materialized. This boar came in Friday evening with a couple of other sows and about 30 little ones and he made the mistake of staying out from under neath the feeder, but came around from my right feeding on the corn that had spun out into the mesquites and brush around the feeding area.
Thinking he was safe being in the brush, I do not think he realized that he was getting closer to my blind and when he stepped out of the brush and turned to look at the blind, it was too late. I had already been at full draw and let the arrow fly. The arrow hit right at the point of the shoulder and exited the back side of his ribcage as he was quartering to me at 10 yards. You can see the blood on his left shoulder in the first pic where the arrow entered. The arrow fell out after about 5 yards. Good penetration with the Phathead SOB 100 grain. I tracked the hog until it got dark and decided to return the following morning. I picked up the blood trail and only went about 30 yards and there he lay. Total run of only about 100 yards. I had probably been within 20 yards of this hog the night I shot him, but with the tall grass, no flashlight and him being almost the same color as the grass I did not see him. My biggest to date and not bad cutters for our area. Sorry for the sorry LDP's, but my camera tripod broke and I had no one to help with the pics so I just layed my bow across him and took some pics. Enjoy.
