50 yard shots with my bow.

Postby helomech » 06:18 pm Sep 27 2008

Well didn't see any thing this morning, but had something growl at me on the way to the deer stand. Decided to see how my bow shot at 50 yards. There is a hog I want to try to kill, and the stand is 50 yards from the feeder. So today I thought I would sight in at 50 yards and give it a whirl. This is not to bad, this is my second year bow hunting. I keep pulling one of them just a little. At 30 yards it is not apperant, but at 50 yards it is a little obvious. Still a kill shot.

The camera makes it look like more than 50 yards.

My groups. I only have 2 practice arrows. I seem to nail the first arrow, then pull the second one for some reason.

Sounds plenty good to me.
The way I look at it, as long as the first shot counts, who cares about the second.
I ain't a bow hunter, but it's the same principle as any hunting (bow, pistol, rifle). Make the first shot count.
Looks like you are doing great.
Doubt I could hit a UPS truck with a bow at 50 yards, much less a hog.

Thanks, but with the bows they have out now, it isn't that hard to hit where you are aiming. Just like anything else, practice practice practice. cheers.gif

Looks good to me helomech
post up w/ the 50 yard kill.
All I saw this weekend was a spike,8 point, 1 BIG hog, 6 does & 1 bobcat.
The hog and bobcat where out of range maybe I should work on my 50 yard shot.

All I saw from my stands was um nothing. I did jump a group of hogs walking back to the house. But it was to dark for the bow sights, so I shot with the .357. I hit one, but could not find any blood. The hogs were running everywhere, I thought there were only 5 or so, but after I shot there must have been 20 of them. Oh well the buzzards need to eat to.

I think it's to hot to see any good whitetail yet.
And plenty of food after all this years rain.
